Urban Wilderness is now THREE ORGANIZATIONS WITH ONE SHARED VISION.
Announcing: Urban Wilderness WORKS, a WA state non-profit continues the legacy of wilderness and storytelling opportunities in the Seattle region; Urban Wilderness PROJECT™, developing curriculum for a changing society; and coming soon, the Urban & Wilderness LEADERSHIP ALLIANCE, a national collective bringing together the resources and expertise of individuals to benefit their communities.
Urban Wilderness WORKS to restore our communities, cultural and environment by creating access to service-learning projects rooted in social change. Participants earn service-learning hours through the Wilderness Works and Griot Works programs.
Urban Wilderness PROJECT™ develops curriculum and workshops for a changing society. By combining experiential-learning with the arts, participants move through the intersection of environmental health, social justice, culture and the natural world..
GRIOT ADVENTURES™
Griot Adventure outings are an excellent team building exercise you can arrange for your organization or school.
GRIOT WORKS™
Trained youth and adult participants become storytellers through workshops and performances in their community. Griots use storytelling to create social change by shifting people's perceptions about themselves, their access to wilderness and their connections to rest of the natural world. The program has three components: indoor writing/performance workshops, outdoor workshops and storytelling open-mics.
RESTORATION WORKS™
Trains youth and adult volunteers to restore positive perceptions about the natural world through installations combining murals, photos, poems, stories and hands-on natural restoration projects.
WILDERNESS WORKS™
Work and play! Join our 17-day wilderness trip for high school students in Washington's wild places or begin your adventures on day at a time explore the urban wilderness of Puget Sound. Youth earn all 60 of the community service-learning hours required for graduation.
